IS Heartbreak Ridge that difficult?  It depends upon your confidence level.  And your personal fear factor.  I rode for a few years before I worked up enough courage to try it.  I'd walk some parts (my glasses really are magnifying glasses for the roots, you know) and ride what I could.  I really worry about being speared by a stray cypress knee if I should fall wrong.  Finally decided I'd been wimp enough and just hammered through it and made myself do it.  Adrenaline, etc.  Heart racing, sucking wind, but I made it.

I've done it,  many times, and I realize I just don't enjoy it.  It's a hammerfest, to me.  It's a very, very bumpy ride, but only difficult in a few 10 second increments.  But those difficult parts are treacherous (again, to me) and require your full attention.

I've got friends who love it and friends who hate it.  When we ride together, we just meet at the end of Washboard by the power lines.

I'm a recreational rider, whose learning curve is a very long, gradual incline.

YMMV

I will have to go ride it myself.I just had a hard time believing that in all that flat there could be a difficult trail.

the "Very Difficult Trail" indicators at Wilderness Parks (Flatwoods, Trout Creek, Morris Bridge) are pretty much just telling you there are more roots to deal with than the other trails. Heart Break Ridge, Coconut Grove, and Panther are still easy trails compared to trails at Boyette and Alafia, just a bit more bumpy than the rest of the trail within Wilderness parks..

I have to agree with Slowjen. I ride HR pretty much every time I go out there, but I don't like it that much. It's not hard; it's just a pain in the ass. That said, I'm glad it's there. Once in a while it's good to do something we don't really like to do.

I love HBR...it's a great trail to have to pick your lines to run it clean...as always it's all about how you approach it...I personally love Morris Bridge for a great cardio workout and keeping you on your toes on a few of those trails...enjoy 'em!

Get your butt off the saddle, make the bike light, and go fast. Makes the roots disappear.

Yeah...I've never been a particularly brave soul.  Timid rider...yep, that's me.

I tried Panther when I was fairly new and took a fairly bad fall.  Really knocked my confidence for a loop.
