heart rate monitor help
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:29:01 AM »

Hello all
I am looking for some suggestions for a heart rate monitor…. It’s been suggested by a number of riders that I have met that I should get one and use it to increase my performance on the bicycle…
I will be using it for trail riding as well as road riding and my current budget is less than $100.
What kind of features should I be looking for?
All suggestions are welcome

Thanks!
D

I think most of the name brand ones work well (Polar, Nike, Suunto, Timex).  IMO the only useful feature in addition to heart rate is  the quality of the chest strap.  I would make sure you get one of the soft ones.  I think the hard plastic ones are uncomfortable.  Second thing is I would make sure the batteries are user replaceable.  Some HRM require you to send the back to get the battery changed.
