I used to use Gore-Tex Ride-On cables.  They are no longer made AFAIK, but were a cable system with a teflon inner housing coating.  I noted big improvements when used with my old (think 8 speed) Shimano shifters/derailleur.  The cables were similar to this:  http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CA505C00-Jagwire+Ripcord+Cable++Casing+Set.aspx

On my current bikes, I'm SRAM X7/X9 stuff with standard Shimano cables and they feel better than my old Shimano stuff with fancy cables ever did.  That said, if I were looking to upgrade and spend some cash, I'd look into getting these:  http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CA409A32-Nokon+Mountain+Shift+Cable+System.aspx  Aluminum housing with a teflon lining - looks bling and is supposed to perform very well.

You may also want to look at the Shimano XTR housing set. It comes with precut housing, cables, ferrels and boots to keep the nasties out. They can be had for around $25. I used them on my last two conversions and they work very nicely. Only draw back is I have only found them in Grey.

I have the same Jagwire casing as you do, from the same package even, although I have recently put fresh ones on. The cables on the inside are teflon coated. I am not sure of the brand, but they  are exceptional smooth. The cables cost around 10 bucks each.

+1 on the Shimano cables. They have o-rings in the ferrules which creates a truely sealed run through the housings, allowing you to shoot a bit of grease into the housing for super smooth shifting that lasts. I re-use the ferrules with new cables and housing. Just buy 4mm housing (you can get black) and stainless or teflon coated cables.

Many years ago I bought (and still have) a set of sealed ferrules that use 5mm housing from a LBS. Don't know who the manufacturer was, though.

how about these?

When I used them back in the day, the worked wonderfully until they wore out, then it was immediate suckiness. They're also quite expensive.

Those two reasons are why I went back to a sealed Shimano system. When those go bad you get some warning and replacing them is less than half the price.
