my helmet served its purpose this past weekend...upon initial inspection, i just saw scratches on the top but no dents - a more detailed review caught a spiderweb of cracks throughout the whole thing.

A step on that switch-back climb going into the second half of Rollercoaster would be a pretty considerable obstacle, and could be designed to help control erosion....

An uphill log-over with about half of a nice wide log... something that can't be dodged around like we did with the now-missing rock.

I bought a Bell just for that...They have an unconditional lifetime guarantee, if you crack or damage your helmet, you get a new one no questions asked for $35..no matter what model you have or how much it costs new...and most LBS's honor that guaranty too. :)
Glad to hear it was your helmet with spider fractures, not your dome. :D

Just thought I would write this down somewhere.... I pulled into Boyette parking yesterday next to two riders with their bikes on kickstands getting ready to go out.  A Next and a Dimondback bike.   :-\  They were wearing gym shorts and t-shirt type of thing so I get out and smile and say hi.  Showing my friendly side you know.  One of them comes up to me and wants to know where the trails start.  I point them on the right direction and wish them a good ride.  They mount their bikes and one of them turns to ask me where the Abyss trail is.  It is then I decide to show my bad side  ;D   First I did answer his question.  I told him is way in the back of the park but add that if they don't have their helmets on, I suggest they don't ride it.  That answer didn't go well with them.  One of thems shakes his head and the other asks me where in the bulletin board it says the helmets must be on.  I tell him it is not that is just a sugestion.  He then asks me if is the law.  I said no but should be mandatory if you going to ride the Abyss.  Unless he wants his friend to carry him back to the parking lot.  They looked bigger then me so I knew I had said enough.  They hesitated and tell me that they are only going to ride easy and nothing crazy.  I finally just tell them that most accidents to me have happen on easier trails where I thought I could not get hurt.  (I am not known as SandPine fo'nothing  ;D)

Well, one of them open their brand new spanky red H3 suv and pulls two helmets.  he puts his on and the other just puts it on the handle bar of his bike.  They pull the kickstands up and off they go.  I just shake my head and hope I didn't have to pull them out.  I finished my ride at 8pm and didn't see them laying on the trail.  The shinny brand new H3 was gone so I hope they made it back to their families.

Oh well...  I did my part at warning them.

Abyss isn't safe on those bikes even with a helmet on..there are some g-outs that will eat those bikes..besides if you we're really being a jerk you could have shown them the sticker that says the bike aren't supposed to be ridden off road period. It's frustrating when people are so overly cocky and think we are being snobs by warning them and trying to save their bums..sometimes karma has to play its own hand..I bet if one of them would have gotten hurt their attitude would have been considerably different.

As what they've said, you can't stop people from doing stupid things.
And this will be the same people which will sue the county if they got hurt.

One of the pictures that Sam W.'s friend took on North Creek show a guy not wearing a helmet.  He is going down the first drop.  ???

I have a testimony to the importance of wearing a helmet. My boyfriend was biking in Moab for the past week and yesterday, the last day of the trip, he hit a boulder and flew over the handlebars and hit headfirst onto a rock. The helmet actually split and he had a headache and was dizzy the rest of the day. But......he was alive and just a little bit sore.

It baffles me that people will go out there and ride with no helmets. I grew up not knowing that helmets really even existed but the older I get, I guess my sense of self-preservation has gotten stronger. I turn into Mother Hen on the trail when I see kids without helmets.

My wife and I always wear helmets when we ride any trial, but yesterday it came in handy at Alafia.  It was our first time there, and we were hitting north creek.  She was going down that first hill, got to the big root or rock in the middle, went OTB and landed head first on a rock.  She is sore this morning, but didn't even realize she had hit her head on that rock because of the helmet she was wearing.
