If it is this common to get hurt, I am going to slow it down a little and ride with people that are more on my skill level.

28 months into it and

5 broken ribs
1 shattered collar bone
1 punctured lung
1 bruised lung
5 scars that will be there forever

Dude, you have no skills, crowd the trails and have really bad luck. ;)

well maybe it was my "advanced skills class" teacher not doing that good of a job

AND you're my biggest failure. ;)

In Harvey's defense....He taught me while I was riding a 26er - and I was fine on that until I hopped up on the 29er machine of death

MTB'ng is a risk.  All of us will get injured sooner or later.  You can take steps to minimize your risk, but the fact is you will get hurt.  I don't think serious injuries are up at all.  Thanks to the internet the info is out there more.

Harvey's lesson #29

"When approaching a steep drop, move your center of gravity to the front of the bike and use the front brake HARD"

Lies, all lies.

In fact I specifically remember telling you to "not try anything over your head, especially if you hesitate"
