The more I look around at tires, the more I'm leaning toward the Kenda Komodo's in a 26x2.10.  Seem to have a medium tread aggression, light weight etc. Almost like a All Terrain for a jeep...  Does anyone have any experiences with these tires? ???

In addition to those, the Panaracer XC Fire Pros (if you get the Japanese made versions) are 127 TPI and cost a little less. I guarantee that that tire performs well in the stuff we ride.

Ok, i'm gonna have to ask this... What is TPI? 

FYI, My stock tires are Kenda Blue Grooves. Weighing in at 609g or 622g depending if I have the Stick-E; not sure.

TPI = Threads per Inch... the more threads the stronger the tire... less chance of puncture, pinch flat.. the biggest gripe about the komodo was puncture flats...

oh, ok. makes sense.  Just weighed my bike... 33.6#'s.  Stock.  That's insane. So much for my goal of 25#.....


I can't cut the seat post shorter, it's at the max height indicator. Tires are just over 600g's each. What the heck man. The seat feels heavy as hell.  Deffinately need a lighter seat. Amazing how heavy the seat is.

So much for my goal of 25#.....

25 lbs is a good goal.  Will just cost you a boatload of money.
 
Might want to start from scratch with a lighter frame.  8)

Maxxis ingitor exception series tires are around 475 grams each you could shave about a third of a pound by switching to those, and still have agressive rubber.

I vote ignitors. for a pretty aggressive tread they roll quite well. they seem to be a good all around tire capable of all our soil conditions.

The only ones of those I have ridden are Panaracers. Liked them alot but they may not be the fastest rollers. I liked them for the grip on the trail...

haha.  I hear that. I can see how MTB'n can be like that. Cars, boats, 4wheeling, BMX, etc all have this habit of making you buy stuff.

I have had Panaracers, Ignitors, and Kozmik lites........
 
 
All three good tires. The Panaracers grip extremely well, roll ok.  Kozmik lites are surprisingly tenacious, especially leaned over in a turn. The ignitors are right in between, it is worth noting that the 'exception series' ignitor is lighter.
 
You really can't go wrong with any of them.

Ok guys... after taking a break and coming back to tires... Got it down to 2 now.

Kozmik Lite II's 26x2.00 @ 452g  VS. Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.10 @ 510g.  I've been reading around, seems the Ignitor is a bit more aggressive than the kozmik. I like the weight reduction of the kozmiks, but I'm a bit scared from all the pinch flat stories, and slippery traction. Might error on the safe side and do the Ignitors F&R in a 2.10. Looking at the tread design, I'd honestly feel more comfortable riding the ignitors.  I'm pretty good about looking at a tire and figuring out how it will work for the application. For the past 5yrs I've been playing with 4x4's. Rock crawling, mud, sand, street etc.  So I'll sleep on it for a few days and keep reading what you guys have to say being you have way more actual experience with these tires than I do... But if nothing sways me... I'll drop the hammer on Wed Evening to get a set.
