Yes, shifted into the smallest gear. Disconected the cable. adjusted L.  Reconected cable while removing as much slack as you can with you hands. then shifing up the 3. adjusting the barrel/cable tension and the H.

I'd be happy to throw it on the stand after work. 813-368-8202

There's also the Tampa Bay Bike Coop that's open every Monday at 7 (Waters Ave and Armenia, google for directions). They're good people. I help out whenever I can (which has been rarely lately).

I think my lbs charges like $12 for a derailleur adjustment and there is nothing wrong with using them on occasion when something is kicking your ass. I'm guilty of spending way too much time working on something when I could have just taken it to them, paid like $20 and had my bike working as it was intended to rather than just getting by as is.

One downside is that they will not spend a bunch of time troubleshooting in order to save a part. They'll often just tell you that "you need a new ______". I guess it's just a question of how much you value your time and how much pride is wrapped up in fixing your bike yourself.

Oh yeah, buy a bike repair stand, it will change your life.

After learning the hard way to install and adjust hydro/disc brakes after a bike shop screwed it up there is nothing on my bike I cannot fix except true a rim

I took my bike to a shop once many years ago over a front derailleur issue and the kid they had doing tune ups couldn't read a tape measure. Never went back there. My lbs has screwed up a few times but I grade them on an average.

once you get a truing machine you'll find out is very easy. You could actually doit with a bare rim on the bike too.
